Our Principals Steve Lemons, Principal and Jill Kelly, Assistant Principal
Steve Lemons, Principal
It is a privilege and honor to serve this community and school as your principal. Brentfield Elementary has long ranked among the best in the state, and I have followed its history for the past 25 years as an RISD teacher and administrator. What makes this school so special? Talented students, supportive parents and a strong staff are three major reasons, and I am thrilled to be a small part! I always tell people, “ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE AT BRENTFIELD ELEMENTARY!”
I would like to believe everything I have done in my educational career has prepared me for this job, but I continue to learn and grow daily. I began my career in Amarillo in 1980. There I taught P.E. and language arts to sixth graders. In 1981 I moved to Richardson and taught science and language arts to sixth graders at Richland Elementary. After five great years in my portable building, I received an opportunity to work for Texas Utilities presenting a program entitled "Energy, Economics and the Environment". TU paid RISD an educational grant in exchange for my one year of service. This was a wonderful opportunity to see how other people taught school as I presented the traveling show throughout TU's fifty-five county service area. In 1988 I accepted a position as a gifted and talented teacher. Teaching the REACH program at RISD Academy, Bowie and Hamilton Park Pacesetter Elementary was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I completed my masters degree program in administration way back in 1983, but teaching was simply too much fun and rewarding to consider applying for any other position. In 1997 I was named the assistant principal at Hamilton Park. I then served as principal of Yale Elementary from 1998 to 2005. That administrative experience then led me to Brentfield last year. Being principal at this great school is the best job I have ever had.
Jill Kelly, Assistant Principal
I am so fortunate to be returning to Brentfield this year. Last year was an exciting time for me both personally and professionally at the finest school in the metroplex. This year promises to be the best year ever. We look forward to continuing the quest to make Brentfield the one of the top performing school in RISD as well as one the top elementary school in the state of Texas. Our focus will be on building our commended rates for TAKS and offering each student excellent learning opportunities. Our students are the best and deserve to be recognized as such.
We are also excited to encourage increased involvement from our dads as we build our Brentfield Dad’s Club. We know the true path to excellence is paved with support from the whole Bobcat family. Dads are integral to building Brentfield to the top levels, and I want to personally ask each and every dad to make a commitment to volunteer this year to Brentfield. There will be more information forthcoming for dads to know how they can volunteer their time and resources to Brentfield. Please look for the sign up sheets outside of the classrooms during Meet the Teacher night on August 23
I feel so very fortunate to be a member of a learning community where each child is developed academically as well as socially and emotionally. It is a true joy to continue to work with terrific kids and awesome parents to make Brentfield the best it can be. I truly have the best job in the world, and I look forward to another great year.
